Given his impressive track record, much was expected from NGLY's debut album, Cities of Illusion. And he really has delivered something rather special. After beginning with the macabre, early morning ambient of "Ideal Place" the Argentine romps through a dark, atmospheric, on-point blend of rubbery EBM rhythms, metallic electronics, industrial textures, electro beats and mind-altering techno workouts. Given the vintage, left-of-centre nature of his influences, it's perhaps unsurprising that the set feels like a long lost relic of the '80s industrial scene, with just enough modern influences to keep it feeling fresh throughout.
